Summer is around the corner. The season to make everyone jealous with a healthy glowing skin. Scrubbing is a great way to get a healthy glowing skin. In the blog below you will read all the do’s and don’ts of scrubbing.
What exactly is scrubbing?
Our skin cells renew themselves all day long, a beautiful natural process. Every minute we lose between 30.000 to 40.000 skin cells. You could almost say we get a new skin every month. Unfortunately not all dead skin cells immediately release from our skin. Which means they can clog pores and make or skin look greyish and dull. One way to prevent this is by scrubbing dead skin cells from the skin. This way you ensure your skin stays smooth and glowing. The scrub technique has been used for centuries by women and is also gaining popularity amongst men.
Scrub or peeling
The principle is the same; removing dead skin cells and stimulating the growth of new skin cells. A scrub is a cream with small particles that are used to gently scrub the skin. A peeling also uses small particles but contains a refreshing ingredient such as an enzyme or an acid. When using a scrub, add a thin layer to skin scrub gently and allow your skin to absorb the product. By doing this, dead skin cells will be removed and rinse off easily. We recommend not doing a peeling at home but instead going to a beauty spa to get this done.
Advantages
Let’s list the advantages of scrubbing
– Your skin will get more oxygen
– It stimulates blood circulation
– It removes dirt or residues from the skin
– Creams and body lotions will be absorbed more easily
– You will tan faster and your tan will last longer
– Your body will produce new skin cells faster
– You will have less acne and blackheads
To sum up: you get a healthy, clean and beautiful glowing skin.
Technique
Sounds nice right? But how does one use a scrub? It’s actually very easy! Start by making your skin wet and gently scrub using circular motions. This way you simultaneously remove dead skin cells and massage your skin. Massaging your skin contributes to a better blood circulation. Once you are done scrubbing, rinse away the scrub with water.
Face
Your face is very sensitive so never use a body scrub on your face. The grains used in a body scrub are far too big for the face. Start by making your face wet and take a small amount of scrub between your fingers and gently massage it onto your face. Feel free to use circular motions across the entire face but avoid going over the same patch of skin too often. Your skin and the area around your eyes is way too sensitive. We do recommend spending a little extra time on your T-zone (chin, nostrils and the middle of your forehead). After scrubbing your face may be slightly red but this is because of the blood circulation which has been stimulated by all the scrubbing. Initially your skin may feel a little dry and tight so it is recommended to use a hydrating cream after you finish scrubbing your face.
Body
Body scrubs have larger scrub particles because the skin on our body is less fragile. But be careful with your armpits as that area is significantly more sensitive. It is best to scrub your entire body using circular motions. That way you stimulate blood circulation. If your body feels a little dry and tight you should use a rich body lotion. If you would like to use a self-tanner, then do so right after scrubbing. After we scrub, our skin is smooth which results in a smoother tanning result. There are also special scrubs for hands, feet and lips.
How often should I scrub?
We do not recommend scrubbing every day, instead scrub once or twice a week. If your skin is sensitive its better to only scrub once a week. And if you plan on going sunbathing then its best to scrub the evening before and not right before going outside.
Which scrub?
There are many different scrubs available. The scrubs by Umami are made with glycerine and 100% natural strawberry seeds as scrub particles. This way Umami scrubs undo your skin from dead skin cells in a mild but efficient way.
